Numerology
Chaldean name number from the letters in your name, and an optional life-path number from a birth date.
What Numerology Calculates
Numerology assigns a number to each letter of a name and to the digits of a birth date, then reduces the total to a single digit that tradition links with a planet and a set of traits. In India it is often consulted when choosing or adjusting the spelling of a name for a child, a business or a brand.
The free Numerology calculator on GyaaniJyotish gives your name number using the Chaldean system and, if you add a birth date, your life path number, with no sign-in.
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter your Full name as you usually write it, in English letters.
- If you want a life path number, pick your Birth date from the calendar. It is optional.
- Select Calculate.
The result shows two numbers:
- Name number: the Chaldean value of every letter in the name you entered, added together and reduced to one digit from 1 to 9. The name it was calculated from is shown below it.
- Life path: the digits of your full birth date added together and reduced to one digit from 1 to 9. It appears only when you give a birth date, with the date shown below it.
Spaces and punctuation are ignored, so "Ravi Kumar" and "RaviKumar" give the same name number. A change of spelling, an added initial or a surname can change it.
Chaldean Letter Values
The Chaldean system gives each letter a value from 1 to 8 based on its sound. The number 9 is not assigned to any letter, as it is traditionally held sacred.
| Value | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A, I, J, Q, Y |
| 2 | B, K, R |
| 3 | C, G, L, S |
| 4 | D, M, T |
| 5 | E, H, N, X |
| 6 | U, V, W |
| 7 | O, Z |
| 8 | F, P |
In Indian numerology each single digit is traditionally linked with a planet: 1 with the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn and 9 Mars.
Common Questions
What is the difference between the name number and the life path number?
The name number comes from the letters of your name and can change if you change the spelling. The life path number comes from your birth date, so it stays the same for life. Practitioners often read the two together.
Why is my number different on another website?
Many sites use the Pythagorean system, which gives letters the values 1 to 9 in alphabetical order. This calculator uses the Chaldean values shown above, which assign many letters differently, so results often differ.
Should I change the spelling of my name to get a different number?
That is a personal choice. Numerology is a traditional practice, not a predictor of guaranteed outcomes, and a name carries family and cultural meaning beyond its number.
Can I talk to someone about what my numbers mean?
Yes. GyaaniJyotish AI astrologers can explain your name and life path numbers, and how they sit alongside your birth chart, by chat in ten Indian languages; voice is available in English, Hindi and Tamil.
